കേരളത്തിൽ മല്ലി കൃഷിയുടെ സാധ്യത എങ്ങനെ

മല്ലി എന്ന ചുരുക്കപ്പേരുള്ള കൊത്തമല്ലി രുചിയിലും മണത്തിലും പോഷകത്തിലും മികവുറ്റതാണ്. ഇതിന്റെ വിത്തുകളും അവ മുളപ്പിച്ചുള്ള തൈകളും ഒട്ടുമിക്ക കറികളിലെയും മുഖ്യ ചേരുവകളാണ്.

മല്ലിയും പച്ചക്കറികൾ, പലവ്യഞ്ജനങ്ങൾ എന്നതുപോലെ മറ്റു സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിൽനിന്ന് ഇവിടേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവരപ്പെടുന്നു. മല്ലി കൃഷി കൂടുതലായുള്ള ഇന്ത്യൻ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളാണ് രാജസ്ഥാൻ, മധ്യപ്രദേശ്, ആന്ധ്രപ്രദേശ്, ഒറീസ്സ, കർണാടക, തമിഴ്നാട് തുടങ്ങിയവ. ഇവിടങ്ങളിലെ ഉദ്ദേശം നാലു ലക്ഷം ഹെക്ടർ സ്ഥലത്തെ കൃഷിയിൽനിന്നും പ്രതിവർഷം രണ്ടു ലക്ഷം ടൺ കൊത്തമല്ലി ഉൽപാദിപ്പിക്കുന്നതായാണ് കണക്ക്. മല്ലി ഇലയും പോഷകസമ്പന്നമാണ്. ഇതിൽ മാംസ്യം, പഞ്ചസാര, വിറ്റമിൻ ബി എന്നിവ അടങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ഹൃദ്യമായ സുഗന്ധത്തോടെയുള്ള ഇത് സ്വാദിഷ്ഠം കൂടിയാണ്മല്ലി കൃഷിക്ക് അനുയോജ്യമായത് താപനില കുറഞ്ഞ മഞ്ഞുവീഴ്ചാസാധ്യതയുള്ള ശൈത്യമേഖലയാണ്. ഉയരം കൂടിയ മേഖലകളിലെ ശൈത്യകാലാവസ്ഥയിൽ നടത്തുന്ന കൃഷിയിൽനിന്നും ലഭിക്കുന്ന വിളവിൽ എണ്ണയുടെ അംശം ഏറിയിരിക്കും. കേരളത്തിൽ കിഴക്കൻ മലമ്പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലെ ഉയരം കൂടിയ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ മല്ലി കൃഷി പരീക്ഷിക്കാവുന്നതാണ്.

ഉഴുതൊരുക്കിയ സ്ഥലത്ത് ഹെക്ടറിനു 15–20 ടൺ കാലിവളം അല്ലെങ്കിൽ തത്തുല്യമായ ജൈവവളങ്ങൾ ചേർത്ത് വിത്ത് വിതയ്ക്കാം. ഹെക്ടറിനു വേണ്ടിവരുന്ന വിത്തിന്റെ അളവ് 15–20 കി.ഗ്രാം. വിത്ത് ലഭ്യത കുറവാണ് കേരളത്തില്‍ കൃഷി സാധ്യത പ്രയോജനപ്പെടുത്താനാകാതെ വന്നതിനൊരു കാരണം. വിത്ത് തമിഴ്നാട്ടിൽനിന്നും കൊണ്ടുവരാവുന്നതേ ഉള്ളൂ. വിതയ്ക്കാൻ വേണ്ടി വിത്ത് ഒരുക്കുമ്പോൾ ഗോളാകൃതിയിലുള്ളവ കൈകൾകൊണ്ടു മൃദുവായി തിരുമ്മി പിളർക്കണം. ഇങ്ങനെ ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുക; മുളപൊട്ടുന്ന ഭാഗത്തിനു ക്ഷതം ഉണ്ടാകാനിടയാകരുത്.
ചെടികൾ തമ്മിൽ 30 സെ.മീ. അകലം ലഭിക്കത്തക്കവിധം വിത്ത് പാകുക. കൃഷിയിറക്കാന്‍ പറ്റിയ സമയം ഒക്ടോബർ-നവംബർ മാസങ്ങള്‍. വിത കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ വിളവെടുപ്പിനു 80–140 ദിവസം വേണ്ടിവരുന്നു. ഇനങ്ങൾ തമ്മിൽ മൂപ്പുകാലം വ്യത്യസ്തമായിരിക്കും. വിത കഴിഞ്ഞാലുള്ള പ്രധാന പരിചരണങ്ങളാണ് ഇടയിളക്കൽ, കളയെടുപ്പ്, വളം ചേർക്കൽ, നനയ്ക്കൽ, കീടരോഗ നിയന്ത്രണം തുടങ്ങിയവ.
അവരവരുടെ വീട്ടാവശ്യത്തിനുവേണ്ടി ചെറിയ തോതിൽ മല്ലി കൃഷി അടുക്കള പരിസരത്തുതന്നെ നടത്താവുന്നതാണ്. അധിക വെള്ളം വാർന്നു പോകാൻ വേണ്ടത്ര ദ്വാരങ്ങളോടെയുള്ള 15–20 സെ.മീ പൊക്കമുള്ള പരന്ന പാത്രത്തിൽ പോട്ടിങ് മിശ്രിതം നിറച്ചു നനച്ചശേഷം വിത്തുകൾ പാകണം. തുടർന്നു മിതമായി നനച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കണം. വിത്താവശ്യത്തിനു തൽക്കാലം കടകളിൽനിന്നും വാങ്ങുന്നതിൽ‌നിന്നുമുള്ള മുഴുത്തവ പെറുക്കിയെടുത്ത് രണ്ടായി പിളർത്തിയത് മതിയാകും. വിത്തുകൾ കിളിർക്കാൻ 10–12 ദിവസങ്ങൾ വേണ്ടി വരും. തൈകൾക്കു 10–12 സെ.മീ ഉയരമായാൽ പിഴുതെടുത്ത് ഉപയോഗിക്കാം. ഈ വിധം വർഷം മുഴുവൻ വീട്ടാവശ്യത്തിനു വേണ്ടത് കിളിപ്പിച്ചെടുക്കാവുന്നതാണ്.
